In Annals, Ennius celebrated the Roman nation and Roman history in epic form, shaped the opinions of orbis terrarumand imperium of Ennius’ contemporaries and later generations, widely infl uenced Western perceptions of imperium to this day. The original text of Annals is now lost, leaving behind fragments of the text in an unclear order, with ambiguous meanings that are diffi cult to grasp. The only way to understand the poet’s teachings is to read the text closely to explore his image of orbis terrarum and imperium in Annals. This research shows that in Annals, the true position of Rome is the conqueror and ruler of the world, and that is the exact meaning of imperium.
Western Сlassical Сriticism extends from the Ancient Greek Period to the Early Christian Period, it lasted for 14 centuries. The main objects of “Classical Criticism” are poetry and prose. Poetry includes genres such as epics, odes, mourning poems, lyrical poems, tragic poetry, comedy poetry, satirical poetry, pastoral poetry and others. Prose includes historical narratives, eloquent debates, public speeches, dialogues, letters and others. The authoritative viewpoint in the Western Classical Academic Community holds that, the essential legacy of Classical Criticism includes three works—Aristotle's "Poetics"、 Horace's "The Art of Poetry" and "On the Sublime" under the name of Longinus .
